During a quantication assay of the constituents of Eleutherococcus senticosus by reverse‐phase HPLC using acetonitrile:water gradient elution, it was observed that a recently reported component, dihydrodehydrodiconiferyl alcohol monopyranose, co‐eluted with eleutheroside E. The implications of this nding for researchers and the herbal medicine industry are discussed. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
