Diethylamides were prepared from polyunsaturated long‐chain fatty acids and were examined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The spectra contained informative ions which allowed immediate recognition of the position of the original double bonds. The derivatives were easily prepared in one step and were baseline‐separated on the gas chromatographic column at moderate temperatures. This method was suitable for samples of long‐chain fatty acid mixtures.
