One objective of the work discussed in this paper is to develop a material with high snag resistance, where snagging is the glancing penetration of a composite sheet by sharp objects. The best material of those tested to date is a soft polyure‐thane sheet reinforced sparsely with a web of extruded polyurethane fiber. Stiff carbon fibers sparsely distributed also give good snagging resistance, but closely spaced stiff fibers do not perform well in the ASTM Standard test for snag resistance.
