The fractional free volume values were calculated from the group‐contributed equation of state in the case of poly(propylene) and 1‐pentene‐propylene copolymers. The calculated values were compared to those, which were determined from the zero shear viscosity. The fractional free volume is an excellent parameter to convert pressure‐volume‐temperature (PVT) data to viscosity and vica versa. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
