New mechanistic knowledge of antioxidant and photoantioxidant mechanisms is interpreted to meet the requirements of processing stability and durability of commercial plastics, rubbers and coatings in hostile environments. Factors reducing stabilizer activity and some ecological concerns dealing with polymer stabilization are included.
