A series of novel hyperbranched conjugated luminescent polymers with different length of alkyloxy substitution were designed, synthesized, and characterized by FT‐IR, 1 H‐NMR, 13 C‐NMR and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Their special photophysical properties can be attributed to their hollowed and twisted structure. Their electrochemical and electroluminescent properties were investigated. The maximum quantum efficiency of light emitting device (LED) made from C 1 ‐HPV is 0.02% at 15 V. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
