This contribution presents a model for the smooth muscle contraction embracing a stretch‐dependent calcium function. It enables the coupling of the mechanical material answer with the chemical reactions on cellular level. Based thereon, simulation results of arteries under time‐dependent intravascular pressure, mimicking the scenario during heart‐beat, are analyzed.
