We investigate the influence of a DC electric field on the flow around and in the wake of a confined cylinder by means of numerical simulations. Our results indicate that even very small electrical perturbations have significant impact on the settling time of the lift coefficient. Moreover, the oscillations of the lift coefficient of pure pressure‐driven and pressure‐driven flow with induced electrical field are in anti‐phase. (© 2017 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
