Subject of the investigation is an elastic‐plastic shrink fit with solid inclusion and functionally graded hub in a state of generalized plane strain. It is shown that by appropriate grading a substantial weight reduction while maintaining a satisfactory performance at elevated temperature during operation can be achieved. In particular, numerical results are given for a steel/aluminum FGM‐hub. (© 2017 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
