In the present paper a multifield approach towards isotropic dynamic small strain elastoplasticity is depicted. Its solution procedure is based on a semi‐smooth NEWTON method coupled to a higher order accurate time integration scheme in the context of the finite element method. The appearing interactions are partly analyzed by means of an axisymmetric example. (© 2016 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
