Considered is the feed‐forward control design for an elastic heavy rope that is model by a quasilinear partial differential equation of hyperbolic type. The problem is solved by means of a flatness‐based approach that involves the solution of a Cauchy problem associated with the model equation. Simulation results are given to illustrate the results.
