For the adjoint topology optimisation of a fluid‐dynamic cost functional we apply an Armijo step length selection rule in the gradient descent algorithm. To reduce the computational effort for evaluating the cost functional value in the step length prediction, the function evaluation step is performed on a coarse mesh.
