Abstract This paper will give a short overview about the geometrical aspects in asphalt concrete and especially the creation of artificial microstructures on the basis of informations taken from µCT scans. Informations such as volume fraction or particle size distribution are the foundation for the artificial microstructures. The generation is executed on the basis of a Voronoi diagram with an option for weighting, shrinking and pseudo‐rotation of the particles. The microstructures are generated in a periodic manner to ensure periodic boundary conditions for all later numerical analyses. (© 2014 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
