This contribution deals with the modeling of the physiological behavior of arterial walls, in order to enable a reliable calculation of the transmural stress distribution including also the active response of arterial tissue. Therefore, a simple viscoelastic model, which only requires few material parameters, is considered. Furthermore, a comparative study, investigating the influence of viscoelasticity on the mechanical behavior of arterial walls, is presented. (© 2014 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
