We investigate the influence of viscous damping on the shape and stability of travelling waves induced by Coulomb friction between a rotating rigid shaft and an annular elastic cylinder. As expected, the damping causes the travelling wave solutions to become smoother and more stable. It also decreases the amplitude and range of separation solutions and may destroy the travelling waves by grazing bifurcations at large values of the damping parameters.
