The representative volume element (RVE) method is applied to a fiber reinforced polymer material undergoing matrix damage and fiber fracture. Results of RVE computations are compared to uniaxial tensile tests performed with the composite material. It is shown that the macroscopic behavior of the composite material can accurately be predicted by RVE computations. (© 2011 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
