The paper deals with a continuum damage model and corresponding numerical simulations of the inelastic deformation and failure behavior of aluminum alloys. The focus is on generalized plasticity, damage and fracture approaches taking into account different tiaxialities as well as rate and temperature‐dependence. Furthermore, the special intent of the present work are dynamic applications. (© 2010 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
