We studied experimentally the shear stress relaxation of two different ferrofluids under the action of an external magnetic field by stepwise changes of shear rate. It has been found that ferrofluids able to form significant structures under the influence of an applied magnetic field show a slow relaxation phenomenon. (© 2009 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
