The theoretical investigation of the flow in stenosis is presented. We use a new formulation of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equation in terms of an auxiliary field that differs from the velocity by a gauge transformation [1]. The gauge freedom allows us to formulate simple boundary conditions for the auxiliary field and the gauge field as well. The gauge field eliminates the pressure distribution in the Navier–Stokes equation. The numerical investigation of the creeping flow, depending on the geometrical parameters of the system, is performed. The influence of the pressure drop has been taken into account. An excellent agreement with the analytical results in frames of the film theory was observed. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
