Dynamic stability of a milling process along of a flexible cantilever beam is investigated. The moving process point and the material removal leads to a significant change of the dynamical behavior and, therefore, to a shift of the stability boundary in the space of technological parameters. Modal reduction is applied to the beam model in order to enable an efficient stability analysis. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
