In this paper, a method for coupling finite and boundary element discretizations is presented which allows for non–conforming interface discretizations. This method is applicable (but not restricted ) to static and dynamic problems of acoustics and structural mechanics. The main idea is to employ discrete Dirichlet–to–Neumann maps at each time step within the framework of a Lagrange multiplier domain decomposition method. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
