This paper considers the dynamic equations of a rigid spacecraft under the influence of the gravity torques written as a first–order form with a constant coefficient matrix which eigenvalues are found analytically. An appropriate parameterization of SO(3) group with nice and clear geometrical properties is used and this turns out to be quite efficient in computational aspects. An example is given, which demonstrates the stability of the model. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
