We introduce a fully discrete hybrid scheme for vehicular traffic flow, combining a microscopic description around obstacles such as traffic lights, toll stations, intersections … and a macroscopic description elsewhere. The presented approach is shown to be theoretically rigorous, numerically reliable, and computationally efficient. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
