It is shown that a fluid which flows through a micro‐porous membrane and which is in a state of saturated vapor upstream of the porous membrane condenses fully or partially and re‐evaporates further downstream. Several types of flow can occur. Either liquid, a two‐phase mixture or vapor flow through a part or all of the membrane. The dimensionless groups characterizing the flow process are given and a flow map is drawn to show the conditions under which the different types of flow occur. For a specific case, the mass flux is calculated according to the description presented here and a comparison is made with experimental data and with an isothermal description of the flow.
