Abstract Storage tanks with pressurized liquid gases such as propane or chlorine represent a substantial hazardous potential. The dynamics of the release, for example through an accidentally generated opening, are studied. The most important quantities are the time required to empty the reservoir and the cooling of the fluid. The temperature of the liquid phase influences the vapour pressure which represents a driving force of the outflow dynamics. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
