We discuss the use of Gelfand frames for the adaptive numerical solution of linear elliptic operator equations. After a transformation into an equivalent infinite–dimensional system Lu = f in frame coordinates, the operator equation can be solved within a prescribed target accuracy by approximate Richardson or gradient iteration schemes.
