In this paper, a lower‐bound direct method is presented for the large‐scale problems. This method is based on the statical shakedown analysis and nonlinear mathematical programming. Here, the interior point method combined with the method of difference of convex functions (IPDCA) is used to solve large‐scale problems. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
