The paper is devoted to stability of repeatedly bent flange of a thin‐walled beam. In classical approach each segment of the flange is considered as a simple plate. The paper provides an analytical description of the whole flange as a thin‐walled structure with the use of an energetic method. An explicit formula defining the critical load of the flange was obtained. This enables to perform a numerical analysis of a family of thin‐walled beams. Additionally, a numerical analysis with FEM was carried out. The results of both approaches have been compared. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
