In this paper we propose a pre‐conditioner for an element stiffness matrix of the p‐version of the fem in two dimensions. We prove that the condition number of the preconditioned system matrix is bounded by a constant independent of the polynomial degree. The origin of this pre‐conditioner is the multi‐grid method.
