Filiform corrosion is a form of corrosion that particularly affects aluminum coated or painted with anti‐corrosive surface protection layers. Exposure to water and oxygen as well as certain salts enhance the production of corrosion foci that infiltrate the space between the metal and its coating, especially when scratched along cutting edges or imperfections. The corrosion slowly expands into fine outgrowths, which occasionally cover an extensive area.
