Abstract Photonics is cited as the most important technology this century. In the field of biophotonics, researchers try to make use of the rapid progress among the various photonic technologies in biological and medical applications. Professor Jürgen Popp, speaker of the German research framework “Biophotonics”, explains how this works and how he is attempting to bridge the gap between physicists and physicians in an interview conducted by Dr. Andreas Thoß.
