The β‐distonic ion \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ ^ \cdot {\rm CH}_2 {\rm CH}_2 \mathop {\rm O}\limits^ + {\rm HCH}_2 {\rm CH}_2 {\rm CH}_3 $\end{document} has been shown previously to be an intermediate in the fragmentation of ionized ethyl propyl ether. The reactions of this ion (generated by fragmentation in the ion source of alkyl propyl ethers of glycol) were studied in this work. Labelling showed that this ion undergoes competing hydrogen transfers leading to a series of isomeric distonic ions. Each of them was submitted to an isotope effect.
