Gas‐phase ionization of ethylene with positive ions generated from molecular I 2 leads to the formation of the iodiranium ion, m / z 155. No fragmentation or crossover is seen from a mixture of C 2 H 4 and C 2 D 4 , although a net isotope effect ( I 155 / I 159 = 1.41 ± 0.02) is observed.
