Prostaglandins (PGA 2 , PGE 1 , PGE 2 , PGF 2α ) and their methyl esters served as standards to show the possibility of application of mass spectrometry with extraction of dissolved ions at atmospheric pressure (EDIAP) for prostaglandin identification. Applying EDIAP mass spectrometry to the soft coral Plexaura homomalla , all the prostaglandins and their derivatives described in the literature were identified.
