A survey of the mass spectroscopic technique producing resolved E /2 mass spectra is undertaken, primarily to determine its dependence on the charge‐exchange collision gas used. The applicability of the resultant spectra to ion structure studies is discussed. Instrumental effects, influencing the spectral pattern, are explained and will aid those utilizing this technique for ion structure determination.
