A collisionally induced dissociation study of adamantane, 1‐nitroadamantane, 1,3‐dinitroadamantane and 1,3,5,7‐tetranitroadamantane was carried out using tandem high‐resolution mass spectrometry. Fragmentation pathways of the compounds were determined in the electron impact mode. It was found that the fragmentation of all three nitroadamantanes begins with the consecutive losses of the NO 2 groups followed by fragmentation of the hydrocarbon structure.
