A series of tetramethyldibenzo‐18‐crown‐6 molecules with methyl substituents on the ether ring has been subjected to electron impact mass spectrometry, and from the variation of the fragmentation pattern with substituent position, certain fragmentation processes are located and the composition and origin of certain fragment ions can be deduced. The aliphatic CC fission deduced from deuterium labelling studies of benzo‐15‐crown‐5 is not an observable process for the crowns reported here.
