A technique is described whereby a double focusing mass spectrometer is scanned under data system control to obtain a map of the intensity of the signal transmitted through the collector slit as a function of the electrostatic analyser and magnetic analyser field strengths. Results of processing programs are given, which allow various types of scans within the map to be extracted and presented.
