A novel McLafferty‐type rearrangement has been found to be the most facile fragmentation of ( E )‐1‐alkylsulfonyl‐2‐phenylethenes and the migratory aptitudes for different kinds of hydrogen involved has been qualitatively estimated as benzylic ∼tertiary>secondary>primary.
