Compared with the fully methylated derivatives the presence of free hydroxyl groups in partially methylated uronic acid derivatives alters drastically the mode of the electron‐impact‐induced fragmentation. Using high and low resolution mass spectrometry with 70 and 12eV electrons and labelling experiments, new fragmentation pathways, having no analogy in any carbohydrate deri‐vatives investigated so far, have been found.
