The mass spectra of three dihydroxamic acids have shown in each case prominent [M – 16] +· and [M – 32] +· ions. The spectrum of biosynthetically labeled rhodotorulic acid indicates that these ions arise from the sequential, specific loss of the hydroxylamino oxygens.
