The trifluoroacetate anion undergoes reaction with succinic, maleic and phthalic anhydrides to yield 1 : 1 adducts. The molecular anions of maleic and phthalic anhydride also undergo reaction with perfluoroacetic anhydride to produce [CF 3 CO 2 ] −· Maleic anhydride parent ions produce [M + CF 3 CO·] − ions when allowed to react with perfluoroacetic anhydride.
