The presence of a 2′‐tertiary hydrogen atom has a profound influence on the general fragmentation pattern of 4,6‐dialkyl‐1,3‐dioxanes. Branching at the 2′‐position induces a double hydrogen transfer reaction which is absent in the spectra of 4,6‐ n ‐alkyl‐1,3‐dioxanes.
