The mass spectra of the title compounds have been compared with those of their 4a‐trideuteriomethyl and 1,1‐bis(trideuteriomethyl) analogues. Some fragmentation pathways proposed for ring C aromatic diterpenes by earlier workers have been corrected in the light of the shifts in peak positions and metastable refocusing experiments.
