Upon electron‐impact aryl methyl sulphones (I) rearranged to form aryl‐oxygen bonds. The mode of fragmentation of the intermediate ester (II) to give [aryl O] + or [aryl OH] + ions was found to be markedly influenced by the nature of the aryl substituent.
