The mass spectra of Fe 2 (CO) 6 C 4 (COOCH 3 ) 4 and Fe 2 (CO) 6 C 4 (COOC 2 H 5 ) 4 are reported. Transfer processes of alkoxyl groups and hydrogen rearrangements are observed, and confirmed by deuterium labelling and the observation of metastable transitions. Fe 3 (CO) 8 C 4 (COOCH 3 ) 4 and Fe 3 (CO) 8 C 4 (COOC 2 H 5 ) 4 give similar breakdown patterns. Likely fragmentation schemes are suggested.
