Carbon monoxide is lost from the molecular ion of 2‐hydroxy‐1,4‐naphthoquinone (I) almost exclusively from C‐2 as shown from carbon‐13 labeling studies. The fragmentation scheme originally proposed by Williams for I is not a major process.
