β‐Cleavage in n‐butyl ethyl ether occurs neither by simple bond fission with oxiranium ion formation nor by a mechanism analogous to the γ‐cleavage reaction in carbonyl compounds, but instead it involves skeletal rearrangement within the butyl chain.
