Commercially obtained perfluorodecalin (octadecafluorodecahydronaphthalene) contains a mixture of cis ‐ and trans ‐isomers, the 19 F NMR signals of which overlap. The spectrum can be simplified and assignments can be made by using techniques based on double quantum coherence. The INADEQUATE method eliminates peaks due to the cis ‐isomer, and the DOUBTFUL method selectively detects two quartets of the trans ‐isomer.
