Summary In the paper, we study an optimal control problem connected with a fractional Roesser model described by partial Riemann–Liouville derivatives. A theorem on the existence optimal solutions and the maximum principle for such problem with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions are proved. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
